The 12 and 9-storey residential towers located, a 4-minute walk to Watford Junction train station, and a 14-minute train journey into London Euston. The scheme will feature, 1- and 2-bedroom apartments with over 8500 sq. ft of shared amenity space, including roof terraces to both blocks.
Designing the interiors for the built to rent residential blocks, has allowed the studio the opportunity to tell the story of the site’s rich history through the exploration of the site, and past industries Watford has become renowned for. Watford has a rich past of newspaper printing and pressing, and some manufacturing facilities are still open to this day. With the developments focus on the integration of art installation, inspired by paper in different forms (folded/creased/stacked), we wanted to ensure that this was referenced to within our design process.
Through the exploration of the printing process, through the selection of type, the inking, the rolls of paper being fed into the printing press, the application of ink to paper, and the drying process, we were able to develop a series of finishes which alluded to this traditional process.
Other residential amenities within the third floor include a multi-use suite for residents to book out, a large co-working area provides acoustically lined phone booth pods, along with custom communal tables with integrated power and lighting. A bookable meeting room which also doubles up as a poker and Mahjong room by night, a podcast suite, and a dedicated content creation room. We were also responsible for the design of a 2000 sq ft gym, a multi-use studio space.
